What attracted you to the field of nutrition and dietetics?

I have always enjoyed science. I started by college journey as a Genetics major, but switched majors Sophomore year after meeting my O-Chem lab partner who was a nutrition major. I played sports my whole life and never knew about fueling my body properly. I had no idea nutrition was a career option!

A typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you?

Every day is different! My days consist of meetings with clients helping them develop their population health strategy, meetings with vendors in the population health space and insurance carriers to learn about their services and how they can impact population health and internal meetings with my team to review data, learn new skills, and collaborate. I also develop deliverables for clients that may include a review of vendor options that will meet their population health goals, reports that summarize trends we are seeing in their population health data and resources for developing evidenced based wellness program strategies.

How did you get your current job in dietetics?

Networking! I was looking for a career in the wellness space after working in the clinical space for a few years. Many of the jobs that I have held were shared with me by colleagues or I was referred by a colleague to a position. Many of my hiring managers knew colleagues of mine or knew of my work in other areas.

What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way?

I am a type A person and have always been very responsible, organized and task oriented. I'm not sure if I was born with these skills, but have definitely learned and honed them over the years. I have always enjoyed learning which has served me well in transitioning to the wellness space.

What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you?

Find your passion! There are so many career options and paths for nutrition professionals. Want to try something new? Start doing some research, network, ask questions, learn more about the area you are interested in and start pursuing that type of work.

If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what would it be?

Travel! I would love to be paid with trips to exciting new places.
