What attracted you two to the field of nutrition and dietetics?
We originally were interested in nutrition because we were very athletic and we wanted to know which foods would make us run faster and perform best. We also grew up in a healthy household (we describe our parents as hippies, minus the drugs! J), and our parents put a strong focus on proper nutrition as our mom was always baking everything from scratch and making her own homemade granola– and we were always trying to run as fast as our dad and keep up with him, and our parents always told us that proper nutrition would help with this. We’d feel great when we were at home and ate our mom’s healthy food, but when we went to friends’ houses we’d stray from our normal healthy eating and we’d never feel very good, so we knew there was a connection between what we ate and how we felt and we wanted to learn more!

Describe a typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you?
It’s a lot of fun! Although no day is exactly the same, there are some things that always remain steady—like fielding emails, corresponding with personal clients as well as corporate clients and PR companies, managing social media, researching and writing responses for media inquiries, and sometimes, creating videos or making appearances on podcasts, television or radio shows.

How did you get your current job in dietetics?
Our path was a little non-traditional. Directly after finishing our internship, we opened up our own practice (and have been doing it since!) and started doing individual counseling and corporate wellness, where we’d speak at companies daily, year-round. We’ve moved our practice between cities and have changed our focus a bit since we first started!

What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way?
Oh gosh, the only skill we were born with was having a strong passion for helping people and wanting everyone to be happy! JSo that includes proper nutrition and feeling and looking your best. Oh—and one other, we’re natural born cheerleaders (although soccer is our real sport!) so that’s been helpful for motivating and encouraging people to achieve their goals. Every other skill we learned along the way!

What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you?
Follow your passion and be patient. It takes time to achieve your goals—whether it’s building a practice, getting a new certification or getting on TV, nothing happens overnight, but as long as you enjoy what you’re doing and stick at it, it will happen!

If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what would it be? Hugs!!! Happy clients makes us happy!
