Dietetic Career Spotlight on Kim Juul, Private Practice in Nutrition and Sports
Meet Kim Juul, RD, LD, NASM-CPT, who has combined her fitness and nutrition expertise to have an amazing career as a sports dietitian and fitness instructor working with athletes and “weekend warriors.” - Sarah
What attracted you to the field of nutrition and dietetics?
I was diagnosed with high cholesterol around 8-9 years old, as was my sister who was 4 years older. We ate, what I would consider a pretty healthy diet. High cholesterol runs in my family though. I think that was the first time I started thinking about what I ate and how it would affect my health. It just stuck with me.
Your Job Title/Company?
I am self-employed Registered Dietitian. I specialize in weight loss and sports nutrition for endurance athletes and weekend warriors.

Describe a typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you?
Get up around 4:15, get ready, teach fitness classes at Life Time at 5 am, come home get my 3 kids ready and out the door. The rest of the day is seeing clients, cooking and errands.
How did you get your current job in dietetics?
It’s been a winding road. I have worked in a gym setting, for a school district, for a meal prep company and a hospital. My passion has always been total wellness. The timing was just right for my to go out on my own about 7 months ago.
What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way?
I love to cook and educate people. I have had to learn how to market myself and not take less than what I’m worth (work in progress).
What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you?
Follow your heart and work hard. If you have a passion for it, the success will follow.
If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what
would it be?
Farm fresh organic food or Lululemon clothes.
