Describe a typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you?
Each day is a little different, which I love! I work at home, which I also really enjoy. While I do spend a lot of time on the computer, I enjoy the work I do and the balance and freedom that working from home and being self-employed offer. My days include a mix of meetings, advising and executing on client projects, web platform updates, customer support, content creation, networking, learning, and more!
How did you get your current job in dietetics?
I created it! When I first became a dietitian, Bozeman was a much smaller town with few jobs and even fewer dietitians’ jobs! My first job as an RD was as a per diem clinical dietitian in a hospital over two hours away. I knew that wasn’t a long-term solution, so naturally, my next step was to start a private practice! I always knew I wanted to work in communications and on the brand side and it took me these experiences to get there and transition my business to what it is today. I ended up offering some services to a brand at FNCE one year and from that experience I was able to learn what I enjoy doing on the brand side and began pitching it to others as well. This past summer we launched LINK to make it easier for brands and RDs to connect. I had been helping brands and RDs connect for years but could only do so much by hand and wanted it to be accessible to more.
What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way?
I naturally want to help people and please people, which I think helps in business. It’s the nitty-gritty business things that I’ve had to learn and continue to learn along the way. Things like marketing, hiring, finances, etc.
What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you?
Be true to you and don’t compare yourself to others. You’ll be more successful if you stay true to yourself - your clients, audience, and brands all want authenticity!
Think about what success actually means to you. You can customize your job and career to fit the lifestyle you want.
If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what would it be?
Good meals at local restaurants or trips!
