Stacey with NutritionJobs:
Brooke, What's Your Official Job Title?

Brooke Schantz Fosco, MS, RDN, CSSD, LDN: CEO/Founder of Bitchin' Nutrition

How long have you worked as an RDN?
I’ve been a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and entrepreneur for 19 years. I started a blog and private practice in 2009 called Bitchin’ Nutrition right after grad school. I have also worked as a pediatric dietitian, outpatient dietitian, inpatient dietitian, community dietitian, educator, and am a board certified as a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD).

Describe a typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you?
My not so typical work day varies so much! My cumulative experience in both my professional and volunteer roles has provided the knowledge and background to help my fellow RDNs progress their careers through one hour career coaching and EMR solution consultations. During my career coaching calls, I help other RDNs be their own advocate and improve their resumes, LinkedIn profile, and professional brand. I also spend part of my time assisting RDNs in all areas of dietetics from inpatient to private practice with making electronic charting improvements. During these consultation calls, I help RDNs increase efficiency, demonstrate value, track outcomes, and build EMR/EHR templates. My personal mission is to help prevent RDN extinction and the variety of my career including career coaching and EMR solutions allows me to help RDNs succeed and be their own advocates.

How did you get your current job in dietetics?
I have allowed my career to grow and adapt with me and I think that is very important. I never wanted to put all my talents and cultivated skills in one career category.

What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way?
I was called "bossy pants" as a child. I had the leadership trait from a very young age. :)

What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you?
Be your own advocate! Self-advocacy is crucial to your professional success. You are the only one that knows the quality of work you produce, skills you have cultivated, and unique talents that only you can offer a client, boss, or company.

If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what
would it be?

I would love to be paid in trips locally and all over the world. My husband and I have a United States photo map in our dining room and our current goal right now is to travel to all 50 states.
