Dietetic Career Spotlight on Beryl Krinsky, B.Komplete, Corporate Wellness

Meet Beryl Krinsky, MBA, MS, RDN, LDN, whose passion for food and nutrition started when she was only three years old. Learn how you can turn a lifelong enthusiasm and passion into a successful career. – Sarah

What attracted you to the field of nutrition and dietetics? I have been passionate about food and nutrition for my entire life. When I was only three years old, I requested to have my birthday dinner at a Chinese restaurant in order to have my favorite dish “Moo Shu Chicken.” By junior high my focus on the taste of food grew into an interest of food for health. In eighth grade my science project measured the dietary habits of my classmates, and found that the students were eating a variety of non-nutritive, unhealthy foods. With the help of my mom, I developed recipe alternatives to meet the taste preferences of my classmates while simultaneously meeting optimal nutrient requirements. I loved this project so much that my future in the field of food and nutrition was a clear path.

Describe a typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you? As a business owner every day is different for me. There are days when I am in my office creating materials for my business, involved in client meetings or conducting sales calls; other days when I am out at a B.Komplete corporate account observing my team conducting our wellness services; other days I may be meeting with my private nutrition & wellness individual clients; and there are still instances when I will lead the corporate wellness services myself (although those days are numbered). Often times I will have a student intern with me for help and business support.

How did you get your current job in dietetics? I created it.

What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way? I think that I was born with confidence and the desire to create and lead. It has taken me considerable time – and still working on- becoming the best leader that I can be. I have learned that people have very different communication styles, viewpoints, and motivations. Taking time to understand a person will help immensely in any professional relationship.

What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you? Get as much formal education as you can, and as diverse an education as possible. Then, get as much professional experience as you can, also as diverse as possible. Push yourself outside of your professional comfort zone, often. Get as prepared as possible for whatever big thing it is that you are working on, and jump in before you think you are ready. Surround yourself with people that you can trust, rely on, gain advice from, and look up to. Cultivate a strong business acumen. Be prepared to work harder than you ever have before in your life – and love every minute of it!

If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what  would it be? I would love to live on a farm with all types of animals and crops and have someone else pay for all of the work it would take to run the farm. And I could enjoy spending time with the animals and using the crops to cook meals.
