What attracted you to the field of nutrition and dietetics?
Since childhood, I have been involved in food, health and fitness. As a gymnast in high school, good nutrition enhanced my performance. When it was time to go to college, I knew I wanted to study nutrition at UC Berkeley, so I made it my goal to get into the Coordinated Undergraduate Program in Nutrition and Clinical Dietetics.

Describe a typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you?
Every day is different however, I start most days with exercise either at the gym or go for a walk. My days vary from having appointments (phone and in person) to working on my blog, website, marketing or listening to a webinar. I love learning so I spend time enhancing my functional nutrition knowledge.
How did you get your current job in dietetics?
My journey in dietetics has taken many turns. I started as a Clinical Dietitian at Seton Medical Center in Daly City, CA. After four years in the hospital, needing more challenge, I started working as a Medical Sales Representative for Sherwood Medical/Kendall/Covidien (now called Medtronic). During my 18 years in medical sales, I used my nutrition skills and expanded my knowledge of medical products as I sold a variety of items including feeding pumps, tubes and nutritional formulas. My experiences included many different positions from trainer to manager. The hospital work taught me clinical skills and the medical sales position trained me in sales, marketing and business. These positions shaped my path to start my own private practice about 7 years ago. Since my family had significant food sensitivities, I became a Certified LEAP Therapist to improve the health of my family and one focus of my practice now is MRT/LEAP. After completing the IFNA program, my functional nutrition practice increased, and I also started consulting with clients at the adult ADHD clinic.
What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way?
As with many dietitians, I am hard working, driven, and like to help others.
I have learned business skills including public speaking, sales and marketing along my path.
Some of the training I have completed to enrich my private practice include becoming a Certified Health and Wellness Coach, a Certified LEAP Therapist, a Certificate of Training by the Integrative and Functional Nutrition Academy and I loved Erica Julson’s SEO and Blogging courses.
What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you?
Follow your passion and do not be afraid to make mistakes and changes. I have learned so much from all my challenges. As a dietitian, you have so much to offer. Get paid what you are worth!
If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what
would it be?
I would imagine it would be food as we spend so much money on yummy, healthy food in beautiful California. The other would be my gym membership that I have had for 30 years.
I also love to travel.
