Job Description and Requirements
This position is for a Nutrition Program Consultant/Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program Coordinator. This position plans, develops and manages the statewide WIC Breastfeeding Peer Program implemented through 84 local WIC agencies. Additionally, the position:
- Coordinates the management, maintenance and evaluation of six WIC Regional Lactation Training Centers
- Establishes, maintains and provides standardized WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor and Manager Trainings
-Provides consultation on policies and procedures for the program and training centers
- Maintain and update the corresponding components of the WIC Program Policy Manual, and the annual State WIC Plan. Statewide travel and occasional overnight travel are required.
Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:
-Working knowledge of normal and therapeutic nutrition and its relationship with growth, chronic disease, principles and practice of behavior change
-Demonstrated knowledge of nutrition needs across the lifespan with a special focus on women and children.
-Analyze, interpret, recommend and implement policy and procedures guidelines.
-Mastery of the process and practice of consultation.
-Well-developed skills in education/training techniques as applied to adult education and various group process techniques.
-Experience as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
-Experience providing lactation services or peer to peer breastfeeding support as an IBCLC.
-Experience in programs serving the women of childbearing age and/ children.
-Experience in federal nutrition programs such as WIC, Child and Adult Care Food Program, School Lunch Program, Child Nutrition Program, SNAP Program, EFNEP Program, and Cooperative Extension.
-Master's degree in nutrition or public health with three years of program administration or supervisory experience.
Professional Credentials Required (if applicable: Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Commission on Dietetic Registration and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
Physical Requirements: Position is office based with statewide travel required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's degree in nutrition or public health nutrition from an appropriately accredited institution and holds the credential of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD or RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and four years of program administration or supervisory experience
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
