Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

This is a part time position (48 hours bi-weekly). Work in the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Program providing nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education to pregnant, breastfeeding, post-partum women, infants and children under age 5 years. Professional Nutritionist assessing and evaluating nutritional status, writing nutrition care plans for low-risk, high-risk and medically high-risk clients, providing nutrition counseling and education; developing nutrition education materials and in-service classes; providing breastfeeding support to women. Computer skills, productivity in clinic flow, provision of excellent customer service and positive interpersonal relationships.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provides excellent customer service to clients displaying courtesy and respect while expediting their visit to reduce wait time.

Interviews WIC clients to certify for the WIC program per state WIC program policies and regulations stated in DHM 150-24. Performs a nutritional assessment screening and analyzes medical and anthropometric data to determine nutritional risk eligibility. Monitors accuracy of completion of growth grids and measurement techniques by Health Support Technicians. Completes low-risk and high-risk nutrition counseling and counsels all medically high-risk WIC clients at least once per certification period. Refers clients and families to other health and social service agencies. Develops client nutritional care plans to include from 1-3 client-centered goals and prescribes food packages. Documents in FL-Wise electronic client records by end of business day and, in rare emergencies, a late entry note must follow local and state protocol. Provides individual and group nutrition counseling and education. Distributes exempt infant formulas to WIC clients as prescribed by a Physician/ARNP/Physician assistant per WIC program guidelines. Handles receipt of formula and distributes per local procedures. Promotes and supports breastfeeding; distributes breast pumps per guidelines and makes referrals to peer counselors and the Lactation Consultant as needed. Performs duties utilizing a teamwork approach to assure program objectives are coordinated with other staff to achieve desired results. Cultivates positive work relationships with co-workers and communicates key concepts to supervisor and co-workers for efficient operations. Maintains client confidentiality and security in accordance DOHP50-10-10 Information Security & Privacy Policy Confidential Information.

Participates in formulation of nutrition education activities. Prepares and presents the weekly Prenatal Group Class and others as requested. Prepares and presents nutrition classes for WIC, the Health Dept., external agencies and facilities per local planning objectives. Participates in the development, community assessment, planning and carrying out of Objectives/Activities of the Bi-ennial Nutrition Program Plan (NPP). Coordinates NPP work assignments with other WIC staff required to meet our objective timelines and action plans. Completes all work assignments in a timely manner and with professional quality.

Completes other nutritional counseling as required and submits reporting of clients counseled. Assists with tracking the High-risk enrollees for WIC to assure accurate nutritional risks, food packages and follow up scheduled. Accurately completes all client records, HMS EARS, People First time and leave records, GoTravel, etc., by required deadlines. Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training, and other professional and staff developmental activities.
