The NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), in collaboration with its partners, protects the health and safety of all North Carolinians and provides essential human services.
As a part of DHHS, the Division of Public Health is made of a several sections servicing the citizens of North Carolina. The Nutrition Service Branch is a part of the Women and Children's Health Section within Public Health. Activities of the Nutrition Services Branch promote sound nutrition habits among infants, children and women in their child-bearing years. Branch staff work with county, state and private agencies to improve health status by reducing the incidence of nutritional risk factors, improving pregnancy outcomes, and hastening recovery from illness and injury through the provision of technical assistance, education and supplemental foods.
This position is for a Regional Nutrition Consultant, home-based in a county served by the position including Alexander, Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Davie, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly, Surry, Union, Wilkes, and Yadkin. This position provides consultation and technical assistance to local health agencies on program policy for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and for Medicaid Medical Nutrition Therapy, and supports quality assurance of nutrition programs through program monitoring and evaluation. Statewide travel and occasional overnight travel are required. This position reports to the Lead Regional Nutrition Consultant.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Ã¢Â¢Experience with principles and practices of normal and therapeutic nutrition and its relationship to growth, chronic disease, principles and practices of behavior change, nutrition needs across the lifespan with a special focus on woman and children, program planning, implementation and evaluation, and public health service delivery.
Ã¢Â¢Demonstrated knowledge of education techniques and the use of media in the delivery of education.
Ã¢Â¢Experience in interpreting, understanding and translating research findings into education information, communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing, and to prepare and present educational and training materials to professional and lay groups.
Ã¢Â¢Experience in planning, designing and developing educational programs, planning programs and intervention strategies, public speaking, organizing work, working with individuals and on a team.
Ã¢Â¢Skill in problem solving techniques.
Ã¢Â¢Experience in analyzing, interpreting, recommending and implementing policy and procedure guidelines.
Ã¢Â¢Mastery of the process and practice of consultation.
Ã¢Â¢Well-developed skills in education/training techniques as applied to adult education and various group process techniques.
Master's degree in nutrition or public health with three years of administrative or supervisory experience. Experience in the delivery of public health services, especially the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and implement policy and procedure guidelines. Experience in provision of technical assistance and/or training to other health care providers.
Professional Credentials Required
Registered Dietitian (RD) / Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Position is home office based with statewide travel required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's degree in nutrition or public health nutrition, with three years of program administration or supervisory experience, plus the ADA commission on dietetic eligibility, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
