Job Description and Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
This individual will be responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate.
Completes Nutrition Assessment for all low, high and medically high risk WIC clients to provide client-centered nutrition services. Documents Nutrition Care Plan and identified nutrition risks using a standardized process. Ensures certified clients have the correct nutritional risk reason(s) assigned; appropriate food package assigned; accurate and complete health data information; nutrition questionnaire appropriately assessed and completed and a high-risk care plan is developed within 45 days of certification. Provides VENA based nutrition assessment and counseling utilizing appropriate educational materials. Assess clientsâ readiness to change and help client choose appropriate goal(s). Makes referrals for appropriate health and social services. Establishes appropriate number of subsequent individual nutrition education contacts. Evaluates and revises nutrition care plan as needed. Promotes breastfeeding education.
Assists in developing the WIC Program nutrition education plan and monitoring the impact on client services. Directs the operation of WIC services at assigned clinics. Conducts quality assurance and monitoring on a regularly scheduled basis and submits timely to ensure program compliance. Provides the WIC Coordinator written recommended corrective actions and follows up to monitor improvements. Ensures compliance with state, federal and local standards. Reviews budget monthly in FIRS for assigned L-4. Discusses with WIC Coordinator at least quarterly and plans accordingly to ensure expenditures are on projected targets. Achieve effective workplace relationships by aligning employee development plans to organizational goals, developing employees, monitoring progress and providing feedback to all direct reports. Evidence of assessment and communication will be in the form of a documented performance review. Serves as on-site preceptor for Dietetic Interns and other students.
Provides orientation and training to assigned staff according to program policies. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required. Participates in outreach efforts. Refers vendor queries to the vendor manager and client concerns to the supervisor. Assist with completion of client contact reports from the vendor manager.
Obtains accurate data on height and weight measurements on participants. Performs hematocrit/hemoglobin testing and records results electronically. Cleans equipment and area where blood work is done daily. Maintains âuniversal precautionsâ when completing HST duties. Follows established guidelines and standards for safety in handling equipment, biological specimens and waste products to prevent exposure to blood borne pathogens. Accurately completes the lab/anthro screens in the electronic data system. Maintains and inventories all medical supplies.
Assists with inventories of WIC formula, equipment, and educational resources. Submits reports within the required timeframe.
Offers all eligible participants at certification/recertification or at change of address the option to complete a National Voter Registration Act Preference Form/Application and processes the information according to the Florida voter registration guidelines and established agency policies. Receives infants and child immunization records and sends copies to Family Health Services in accordance with agency protocol. Disburses WIC EBT and VOC/ID cards following standard procedure to eligible WIC participants. Instructs clients on using the WIC EBT card. Obtains client signature for EBT card issuance letter. Records the necessary information on VOC/ID cards and EBT card log. Reviews all data for accuracy and completeness. Informs participants when certification expires and what is required for recertification. Keeps security/separation and inventory of VOC/ID and WIC EBT cards. Loads benefits into WIC EBT account for household.
Conducts inservice on the Nutrition Education Kit and provides interactive nutrition education contacts to low risk participants. Inputs the nutrition service code in the data system. Mainains documentation of participant goal setting. Completes and submits time sheets, EARS, and travel correctly, timely and according to established division and agency guidelines. Reviews and ensures subortindatesâ forms meet the same guidelines. Reads, understands and implements directives assigned. Greets prospective WIC participants, answers telephones promptly and courteously. Schedules appointments and makes appropriate health and social services referrals. Accurately obtains income, demographic and other participant information necessary to determine WIC program eligibility and advises WIC participants of their rights and obligations according to federal guidelines. Utilizing an electronic data system accurately enters required participant data and obtains signatures. Reviews âHow WIC Worksâ with each new participant.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, Including Utilization of Equipment required for the position:
Knowledge of the science and current practice of nutrition or dietetics. Knowledge of the concepts and theories of nutrition or dietetics as it relates to growth, development, health or disease. Knowledge of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques. Knowledge of the methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data. Ability to develop educational/training plans and supporting materials. Ability to use various communication channels to provide education/training. Ability to analyze and interpret anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and dietary data. Ability to interview and counsel patients. Ability to supervise people. Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Required Bachelorâs or Masterâs degree from an ACEND accredited program with a major in nutritional science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics or public health nutrition.
