Two positions will be filled with this posting.
This part-time position provides direct client service to Collier WIC program participants. Incumbent is expected to assess the nutrition status of WIC applicants/clients, provide pertinent nutrition education and counseling, assign appropriate WIC food packages, provide indicated referrals, and adequately document all items listed above. This employee is required to have an annual assessment for TB, which may include a tuberculin skin test. This employee is at risk for exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Employee will be immunized in accordance with State Health Program Office Immunization Recommendations for Health Care Workers or employee provides proof of immunity for recommended immunizations. The incumbent is anticipated to work up to 29 hours per week.
A Bachelorâs or Masterâs degree from an U.S. accredited university or college in nutritional science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition is required. Current licensure as a Florida licensed Registered Dietitian is required. Bilingual skills beneficial - Spanish/English or Haitian Creole/English. A valid Florida Driverâs License and the ability to provide reliable transportation are also required. American Heart Association cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification (CPR) required. Incumbent may be required to work additional hours in the event of an emergency or as needed. Emergency duty is required of the incumbent and includes working in special needs or Red Cross Shelter, or to perform other emergency duties including but not limited to responses to threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Provides nutrition education and counseling per Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment requirements.
-Assesses all nutrition problems presented by each client, and assigns correct WIC nutrition risk criteria.
-Documents assessment, counseling provided, client established goals, and food package assigned in the FL-WiSE data system.
-Provides and documents appropriate referrals including, but not limited to, the Immunization program, medical referrals, family planning, smoking cessation, community food, clothing and shelter sources and other government assistance.
-Completes required administrative forms timely and accurately.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES DEEMED ESSENTIAL TO THIS POSITION:
-Skill in use of computers, including Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
-Ability to learn the FL-WISE computer system, DOH software, and use a calculator
-Ability to effectively perform nutrition assessments and provide education
-Ability to accurately document patient records and enter data into system
-Ability to interact professionally and collaborate with clients, community partners and other DOH staff
-Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
-Ability to work flexible hours and work at different locations if needed
-Ability to maintain client confidentiality
-Bilingual skills beneficial - Spanish/English or Haitian Creole/English.
