Job Description and Requirements
The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County is seeking a Nutrition Director to assist the Program Manager in leading the Local AgencyÃ¢s WIC Program. The individual in this position will assist with developing, implementing, and monitoring the policies and procedures of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC Program) for the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County to assure compliance with Federal regulations and state policies and procedures as described in the WIC Procedure Manual DHM 150-24, WIC Data System User Guide, WIC Data System Manager Guide, WIC CPA (Competent Professional Authority) Guidebook, Formula Reference Guide and Formulary.
Monitors and evaluates the program for compliance within established guidelines.
Manages the quality improvement and quality assurance component of the WIC program through completion of quarterly chart audit, monitoring program indicators and working QA reports.
Assists with completion of the Biennial Self-Review and the Nutrition Program Plan.
Coordinate programmatic training, and continuing education to meet program requirements.
Directly supervises the Breastfeeding Coordinator and assists with planning, developing, implementing and strategies for promoting breastfeeding, especially among high risk and low income clients.
Directly supervises the Vendor Manager and assists with planning, developing, implementing and evaluating strategies to ensure effective and efficient vendor management program.
Directly supervises the Outreach Coordinator and assists with planning, developing, implementing and evaluating strategies to ensure an effective outreach program.
Participates and coordinates as needed with the recruitment, selection, hiring and training of staff.
Coordinates with clinic supervisors to ensure all WIC required trainings and competencies are completed, documented and organized per WIC procedures.
Participates in state-wide WIC conference calls.
Responsible for all supervisory duties of direct reports, including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave and taking disciplinary action as appropriate.
Provide nutrition consultation to WIC clinic staff and clients.
Provide nutrition coverage during times of staffing shortages.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of normal nutrition principles and food needs throughout the life cycle.
Knowledge of quality assurance and program evaluation.
Knowledge of data collection & data analysis.
Knowledge and ability to implement operational policies and procedures.
Ability to perform presentations (both speaking and presentation skills).
Ability to determine nutritional risk and needs and nutrition education plans for individuals including low risk, high risk and medical high risk.
Ability to provide nutrition education and breastfeeding promotion to others in groups or individual instruction.
Ability to use anthropometric equipment, and hematology equipment.
Ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel and Power Point.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments for self and others.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to provide staff training (train and track training).
Ability to provide exceptional customer service to internal and external clients.
Masters degree in dietetics, human nutrition, food & nutrition, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics accredited program AND two or more years of nutrition experience, one year of which is in a management/supervisor capacity AND Registration as a Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics AND Licensure as a Dietitian in the State of Florida. Preference will be given to candidates with Two or more years of WIC experience, of which one or more years is in a supervisory role.
Bachelors degree in dietetics, human nutrition, food & nutrition, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics accredited program AND four or more years of nutrition experience, of which THREE years is in a management/supervisor capacity AND Registration as a Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics AND Licensure as a Dietitian in the State of Florida. Preference will be given to candidates with Two or more years of WIC experience, of which one or more years is in a supervisory role.
