Job Description and Requirements
The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate programmatic and nutrition training for local health agency staff and staff of public and private entities; to develop nutrition education tools that promote breastfeeding, healthful eating and physical activity in women, children and families; to conduct social marketing and health education campaigns; and to support quality assurance of nutrition programs through program monitoring and evaluation. Some travel is required. This position, also known as a Nutrition Education and Training Specialist, reports to the Nutrition Education and Training Team Leader.
As a part of DHHS, the Division of Public Health is made of a several sections servicing the citizens of North Carolina. The Nutrition Service Branch is a part of the Women and Children's Health Section within Public Health. Activities of the Nutrition Services Branch promote sound nutrition habits among infants, children and women in their child-bearing years. Branch staff work with county, state and private agencies to improve health status by reducing the incidence of nutritional risk factors, improving pregnancy outcomes, and hastening recovery from illness and injury through the provision of technical assistance, education and supplemental foods.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:
-Experience in normal and therapeutic nutrition and its relationship to growth, chronic disease, principles and practices of behavior change, nutrition needs across the lifespan with a special focus on woman and children
-Experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation, and public health service delivery
-Demonstrated ability to interpret, understand and translate research findings into education information, communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing, and to prepare and present educational and training materials to professional and lay groups.
-Skilled in problem solving techniques
-Experience with programs serving the women of childbearing age/ children and federal nutrition programs such as WIC, Child and Adult Care Food Program, School Lunch Program, Child Nutrition Program, SNAP Program, EFNEP program and Cooperative Extension Program
Position is office based with statewide travel required.
Professional Credentials Required:
Registered Dietitian (RD)/ Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Commission on Dietetic Registration
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's degree in nutrition or public health nutrition from an appropriately accredited institution and holds the credential of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD or RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and three years of program administration or supervisory experience.
