Job Description and Requirements

Job Summary:

The Kitchen Manager is responsible for planning, preparing and packaging all meals, the execution of all daily meal production and supervision of kitchen staff for a non-profit provider of meals to clients with serious illnesses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinates activities of and directs orientation and training of chefs and other kitchen workers engaged in preparing and cooking foods to ensure efficient food service; oversees training of interns/externs.
Plans or participates in planning menus, taking into account probable number of clients, market conditions, popularity of various dishes and redundancy of menu as well as medically tailored nutrition requirements. Coordinates with dietitian to plan, change, test and standardize recipes.
Estimates food consumption and receives bids for merchandise.
Contacts vendors; supervises ordering and purchasing of merchandise and verifies against invoices.
Develops short- and long-range plans and evaluates and implements methods and procedures to ensure cost-effective operation.
Supervises kitchen personnel and coordinates their assignments to ensure economical and timely food production.
Supervises non-cooking personnel, such as Kitchen Assistant, to ensure cleanliness of kitchen and equipment.
Observes methods of food preparation and cooking. Specifies number of servings to be made from any dish to control portion costs.
Participates in hiring process for Kitchen staff.
Enforces nutrition and sanitation standards.
Provides encouragement and coaching to department staff

Qualifications:

Experience and background in culinary field
Culinary skills
Supervisory skills with a management background
Communication proficiency, including MS Word and Excel
Multi-tasking abilities
Dietary knowledge of the nutrition of illness-specific meals

Salary Range:

$55,000 - $57,000 annually

Terms and Benefits:

Full-time exempt position
Paid vacation and sick time in accordance with agency policy
Annual evaluation by supervisor (Sr. Director of Operations and Administration)
