JUNIOR SPECIALIST, STEP I to II - METABOLSIM
DEPARTMENT OF NUTRITIONAL SCIENCES & TOXICOLOGY

A Junior Specialist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Sona Kang at the Department of Nutritional Sciences & Toxicology at UC Berkeley. Our research program focuses on transcriptional and epigenetic basis of metabolic dysregulations, in particular, obesity and type 2 diabetes. We seek to identify the core transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms underlying the conditions, validate the physiological significance, and to develop therapeutic interventions. We apply multiple traditional wet lab techniques global profiling studies as well as genetic mouse models. We are looking for self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative applicants who can work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will participate in various research projects requiring technical expertise such as metabolic characterization of mouse models, cell culture studies, and/or biochemical studies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (by time of application)
Candidates must have a Bachelorâs Degree or equivalent degree in Biology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, and Biochemistry or related field.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (by start date)
Candidates must have at least one year of wet lab research experience in: 1) characterizing genetically engineered mouse models, or 2) cell biological, biochemical and molecular biology. Applicants should also have one year of research experience in one of the following areas: Molecular and Cell Biology, Metabolic Phenotyping of Mouse Models, and Global Profiling Studies. Also demonstrated teaching ability to train undergraduate students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (by start date)
Experience and knowledge in the field of Bioinformatics.

APPOINTMENT
The anticipated start date for this appointment is October 1, 2017. The initial appointment is for one year at 100% full time, with renewal based on performance and funding availability.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
