The Registered Dietitian (RD) assesses, organizes and synthesizes data to develop a Nutrition Plan of Care. The RD utilizes critical thinking to plan and select appropriate interventions for patient care that result in the desired patient outcomes. The RD participates as a knowledgeable member of the clinical dietetics team in the delivery of professional nutrition services to patient, employees and others as assigned.
Responsible and accountable to coordinate the Nutrition Plan of Care of all assigned patients.
Performs initial and ongoing assessments.
Analyzes and evaluates patient data collected.
Prioritize, plan and provide direct care to assigned patients.
Develops a collaborative Plan of Care with patient, family, and the multidisciplinary team.
Monitors and directs care provided by Diet Office Personnel and Diet Technician.
Coordinates plan for Patient and Family Nutrition Education and assists with discharge planning.
Demonstrates clinical skills in providing patient care by:
Intervening at critical and/or key points to achieve expected outcomes.
Utilizing critical thinking/decision-making skills to plan and select appropriate interventions for patient care that will result in the desired outcome, with consideration for appropriate utilization of human and material resources.
Assists with the orientation and education of staff and students.
Participates in orientation of new staff.
Shares knowledge with other staff and students as appropriate.
Supports an environment conducive to professional practice by functioning as a role model and resource person.
Participates in peer review.
Practice is based on Medical Center policies and procedures.
Participates in utilizing standardized practices to validate nutrition care requirements for patients.
Utilizes communication skills effectively and models AIDET concept when interacting with patients, physicians, families, co-workers and other disciplinary team members.
Relays pertinent information verbally and/or through appropriate documentation.
Interacts professionally with all.
Represents Nutrition Services and Regional West Medical Center in hospital and community settings in a positive manner.
Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
Contributes to quality of patient care through Performance Improvement activities, Performance Improvement audits, and cost/benefit analysis.
Plans and participates in community out-reach activities as assigned.
Attends and participates in approved/requested committees and meetings.
Maintains current clinical knowledge and skills through professional journals, in-services, workshops, and/or seminars.
Demonstrates flexibility in adjusting to variable work load and job duties.
EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree required, plus graduate experience requisite for registration with the American Dietetic Association.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Licensed as a Medical Nutrition Therapist with the State of Nebraska.
