Job Description and Requirements

Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) is actively recruiting for a qualified Dietitian to join the Public Health Services Department. The Public Health Services Branch protects and promotes the health status of Tulare County residents through the development and implementation of public health and primary care programs that use best practice interventions.

Dietitians work in Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program or the Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention (NEOP) program. WIC is designed to help pregnant women, new mothers, and young children eat well and stay healthy. NEOP provides nutrition education to the SNAP-ED eligible population including: general nutrition education one-on-one, in a classroom, or group setting; staffing health fairs and other community or promotional events where nutrition education messages are delivered; distribution of linguistically and culturally appropriate nutrition education materials.

The qualified candidate will need to possess the ability to communicate effectively and clearly with program team staff, program participants and their family members, community members, and various community partners. In addition the successful candidate will act as a liaison between HHSA, community partners, community members and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

Provides nutritional assessments, counseling, and care plans for referred clients; consults with health care providers as needed; refers clients to other community health and assistance programs; and may present nutrition education to various groups

Acts as a supervisor at assigned clinic sites, ensuring effective clinic operations, prepares or adjusts schedules; and assists in staff orientation, training and evaluation of subordinate staff's job performance

Plans and participates in outreach activities and events for recruitment of participants and program publicity

Responds to inquiries regarding nutrition matters; prepares and/or reviews nutrition protocols in accordance with program standards; assists in program policy and procedure implementation; and may provide consulting, program monitoring and reports for county correctional facilities. or changes related to nutrition

Maintains effective working relationships with program staff, other departments and agencies, community partners, and community members

Works effectively with individuals and families to assist them in satisfactory solution of health concerns related to nutrition and physical activity

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet the qualifications listed below by the application deadline.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, food and nutrition or related area, completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education (CADE) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics, and completion of an Accredited Dietetic Internship Program or Accredited Coordinated Program.

Eligibility for or registration as a dietitian with the American Dietetic Association.

Conditions of Employment

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license. Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted. Some job classes may also require a physical exam.
