Job Description and Requirements
The School of Health Professions at New York Institute of Technology seeks applications for the position of Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the School of Health Professions is responsible to the Dean and provides creative leadership in the promotion of excellence in undergraduate and graduate health education. The role encompasses oversight of and accountability for academic affairs, directing faculty with respect to the nature of health studies and the structure of educational programs and is ultimately accountable for the quality and currency of health program curricula. The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs will provide impetus, direction and support to faculty as they design and implement educational programs that meet the needs of a changing society and health care system. The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs assumes responsibilities of the Dean as delegated and serves as the CEO in the absence of the Dean. This is a full-time, tenured/tenured track (twelve-month) senior faculty administrator position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
â¢ Ensures overall integrity/quality in the delivery of academic programming within the School of Health Professions.
â¢ Ensure the curricular assessment data is used to recommend quality enhancements to teaching styles and curricular content.
â¢ Identify factors in the curriculum that warrant further evaluation and/or assessment using benchmark data.
â¢ Establishes procedures and programs that demonstrate a commitment to an inclusive environment.
â¢ Ensures appropriate accreditation and approval standards are met/communicates with all bureaus and accreditation agencies.
â¢ Monitors national, regional and local trends in health care and health professions education to assure competitiveness in all education programs offered at the school.
â¢ Provides guidance and oversight for faculty development in academic programming.
â¢ Coordinates compliance in teaching assignments of faculty across all academic programs in conjunction with department chairs.
â¢ Effectively guides the utilization of resources and budgets that support the academic programming of the School.
â¢ Creates a climate supportive of the development of training to support educational innovation.
â¢ Participates in planning strategic initiatives to achieve the Schoolâs academic mission in collaboration with collegiate faculty.
â¢ Facilitates shared governance among academic program leaders to assure ongoing improvement/maintenance of high quality programs.
â¢ Serves as liaison between the School and offices of the University on issues of academic policy and programming.
â¢ Represents the School to the broader community, including state, regional, national, international professional meetings, and legislative activities related to health professions education.
â¢ Recognizes the critical role of scholarship in both knowledge dissemination and generation in shaping academic programs.
â¢ Support interprofessional education programming by being actively involved in the development and implementation of curricular and co-curricular aspects of IPE within the school and across the university.
â¢ Work with the Dean in building relationships and reputation with external constituencies.
â¢ Teach in assigned courses.
â¢ Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean.
â¢ Must possess knowledge of accreditation standards and processes for health professions educational programs
â¢ Must have excellent writing and oral communication skills
â¢ Must have the ability to work in an interdisciplinary / Interprofessional dynamic environment
â¢ Must have excellent computer and data management skills
â¢ Must possess knowledge of faculty academic progression policies for those in tenure track and clinical track lines
â¢ Must possess the ability to manage faculty and staff human resources effectively
Preferred Position Requirements:
â¢ An earned terminal Doctoral Degree (PhD, EdD, DPT, OTD, DNP, etc) in a health related field/discipline with a clinical background in any of the current fields offered in the school
â¢ Five yearsâ progressive leadership experience in academic operations and undergraduate/graduate teaching.
â¢ Demonstrated experience in bachelor and graduate degree health professions academic administration.
â¢ Demonstrated experience to motivate faculty and lead teams in a dynamic environment.
â¢ Demonstrated experience to manage complex interaction of academic programming needs and fiscal resources.
â¢ Record of functioning as an effective collaborator.
â¢ Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to diversity / inclusivity in the academic environment.
â¢ If trained in a licensed health profession must possess an unrestricted license in the State of New York or be eligible.
