Job Description and Requirements

The Department of Nutritional Sciences and Toxicology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant or Associate Cooperative Extension (CE) Specialist in Nutritional Sciences. This position is a full time, career-track appointment with an expected start date of July 01, 2019, but is flexible. Appointment rank will depend on qualifications and experience of the candidate.

The CE specialist should develop a research and extension program in nutritional sciences, such as experimental nutrition, dietetics, and/or public health nutrition, at the regional level and statewide. We seek candidates who could translate, collaborate and disseminate ongoing research in the department to the public. The CE Specialist is expected to carry out the mission of the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources, which is to serve California through the creation, development and application of knowledge in agriculture, natural and human resources. Opportunities exist for collaborations with existing centers including the recently restructured Atkins Center.

Basic qualifications (at time of application): Advanced degree or enrolled in advanced degree program at the time of application.

Additional qualifications (by start date): A Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree), or M.D. (or equivalent international degree), or M.S. (or equivalent international degree) with R.D. is required by the start date.

Preferred qualifications: Research and public outreach efforts of the candidate should focus on metabolic health, the prevention of obesity and its associated diseases such as type 2 diabetes. Candidate should have training and background in nutrition, such as experimental nutrition, dietetics, and/or public health nutrition.
