What attracted you to the field of nutrition and dietetics?
I love preparing nutrient dense meals, which I learn from my mom, who is an RD!
Your Job Title?
Nutrition and culinary consultant
Company you are with now?
Hispanic Food Communications
A typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you?
It is different every single day. For example, last week I was doing a nutrition segment for Univision in Miami, FL. Then I flew to Los Angeles to start a three media tour, then back to Miami for three more days of media tour. In the mean time, I did a couple seminars for a client and wrote countless of articles for websites, blogs, and other social media outlets. Not to mention my other job:- Mom to two teenagers!! I think that summarizes my adventurous day!
How did you get your current job in dietetics?
After working close to 10 years at the Quaker Oats Company, many people encouraged me to concentrate in the Hispanic market (I have lived in a number of Hispanic countries which gave me a pretty good first hand knowledge of the Hispanic consumer) which I started little by little as time permitted. After 13 years, I must say, it was one of the best career decisions I ever made!
What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way?
I was truly born with a passion to helping people, an amazing positive attitude and an enthusiastic personality. I learned to never take no for an answer and to continue to seek/strive for the things which I love the most. Then the results = a life filled with joy and happiness. I truly love my career and life in general. I wake up every day with a desired to help anyone who crosses my path. Life is truly a gift – I live every minute to the fullest :))
What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you?
Persist for the things you want to achieve and never, never, never give up!
If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what
would it be?
Beautiful clothes, shoes and bags! And spa treatment – is that too much to ask?
