Registered Dietitian Spotlight: Mindy Weis RD, LD
By STACEY DUNN-EMKE, MS, RD on JUNE 24, 2013
I’ve known Mindy for many many years working together in the business of helping dietetic professionals land their dream job and at dietetic conferences together. I’ve always admired her professionalism, talent, drive and charm. It’s also been important to see how a fellow dietitian’s career has been supported and fostered by a well-known company, Compass Group. It’s my pleasure to present our interview with Mindy Weis, RD, LD. – Stacey
What attracted you to the field of nutrition and dietetics?
I was working on completing another degree and took an intro to nutrition class as one of my electives. By the end of the class I had changed my major and have enjoyed working in the field.
Describe a typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you:
Most of my days are spent talking to people. I could be spending the day conducting interviews for various clinical and food service operations positions or talking with our hiring managers to make decisions on positions to post and candidates to hire. Two days are definitely not the same and each position comes with challenges.
How did you get your current job in dietetics?
I was working as a Regional Clinical Nutrition Manager and worked closely with our recruiting department to fill my open positions. The interviewing and selection process was one of the things I enjoyed most about my job. When a recruiting position came open I decided to apply and see if I had a chance.
What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way?
I think I was born with my ability to talk to anyone about most anything. That is a key part of my position. I have learned so much about different personalities and how to adjust my approach based on the personality of the person I am dealing with.
What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you?
The most important thing about being fulfilled in your position is to have a passion for what you do. If you enjoy the work you do and are surrounded by others who enjoy the work you look forward to starting your day.
If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what would it be?
I would love to get paid by vacations, it would be great to enjoy what you do and be able to travel to other parts of our country and other countries.
