What attracted you to the field of nutrition and dietetics?
It has been quite journey in finding a career that suites both my personality and purpose in life. In the field of nutrition and dietetics, I am able to combine my innate desire to help others, my passion for the sciences, as well as utilize my creativity. Achieving a healthy lifestyle caused a positive shift in my life and has cultivated my determination in helping others in the community achieve a state of optimal health and wellness.
School you are studying at now?
I graduated from San Francisco State University in Fall 2014.
What area of dietetics do you want to go into once you graduate?
I first want to gain experience as a clinical dietitian to establish a strong foundation of knowledge in medical nutrition therapy. I also want to provide nutrition education to underserved families in the community. To nurture my creativity, I plan to write articles for health and nutrition magazines.
Describe your dream job:
My dream job would involve having my own business, which focuses on working closely with families in finding ways to incorporate healthy meals and physical activity into their lifestyle.
I want to promote positivity through writing, photography (and foodtography) and education.
Any special projects or nutrition endeavors you are doing?
Prior to pursuing my degree in dietetics, I worked as an optician for over thirteen years. I am currently designing a handout for the patients of the private practice I work for. This handout focuses on the role of nutrition in ocular health and will be available for all patients seen at For Your Eyes Only Optometry in San Francisco.
What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way?
I feel that I have always been fairly comfortable with communicating with people, regardless of their background, age or personality. I am also very organized—but I must give credit to my family, who has instilled this skill in me at a very young age. Through experience, I have learned how to create a positive outlook on life. I realized that a good attitude will take you much further than you expect.
