What attracted you to the field of nutrition and dietetics?
I was always interested in a career in healthcare and actually entered college as a pre-med major. After taking a course in nutrition, I ended up switching my major. At first I figured I would at least have a real degree when I graduated and still fulfill all the requirements for medical school. Well fast forward 8 years later and here I am as an RD! I think the field of dietetics is great if you want to be client facing but have a wide variety of job opportunities open to you.

Describe a typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you?
Oh they are all “not so typical” but the vast majority of my day to day includes: coaching clients telephonically, creating webinars, newsletters, seminars, and blogs, staying on top of latest research in the areas of health and nutrition, and on some days going onsite for biometric screenings, health fairs, or seminars.
How did you get your current job in dietetics?
Heather and I met when I contacted her via her blog in 2010. We both went to Penn State which is why I reached out. I was thinking of going back to complete my dietetic internship. She encouraged and helped me with some of the steps along the way. We kept in contact and when I ended up in Maryland for my internship, she had started working for WCS, and I completed my elective rotation with the company. It was the best rotation I had done the entire year, and I just knew I had to get back! I love that I get to not only incorporate my RD but also my fitness background as well.
What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way?
I was born with an inner drive to continually grow and learn. I believe in progress. Other than that, I believe by working with highly motivated people and learning valuable lessons, I have been able to cultivate other skills needed to make it as an RD.
What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you?
Don’t fall into anyone else’s idea of success. Define it for yourself.
If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what
would it be?
Beach time! Sun and sand are two of my favorite things.
