What attracted you to the field of nutrition and dietetics?
I started with a goal for a degree in exercise physiology. But I was already married with a small child and wasn’t going to relocate for school. Next best was nutrition.
Your Job Title:
Company you are with now:
MEG Enterprises, Inc.
A typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you:
I work Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from my home office. Mondays are writing days, and Thursdays are business meeting days. I generally start at 10, after working out, eating, etc. I seldom work beyond 5pm.
Activities include coaching clients, corresponding with my team, writing, and creating new products, services and programs.
How did you get your current job in dietetics?
I went back to school to start my own business, actually! But I worked 6 years as a clinical dietitian before my vision of offering in-home personal fitness training and sports nutrition counseling made sense. I started MEG Fitness in 1996, went back for my MBA in Entrepreneurship in 2005, and wrote my book “Just Jump” and formed MEG Enterprises, in 2008.
What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way?
I guess I was born with fearlessness and tolerance to risk. My perspective is life is too short to NOT do what we love to do. I do not want to look back at my life with regrets. No one looks back and says “Oh, I wish I had NOT gone after that dream!” but MANY regret not taking risks.
What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you?
Be courageous! If you have a dream, go for it! Put your plan together. It’s not by accident that my tag line is ‘with vision and planning, anything is possible’!
If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what would it be?
Travel vouchers. All first class.
