Job Description and Requirements

Title: Smart Meals Dietitian

Status: Full-time; 40 hours per week; overtime exempt

Reports to: Program Manager

Supervises: Smart Meals Chef, Assistant Chef, Volunteers

Salary: High thirties to mid forties depending on experience, plus health/dental and combined leave time

Hours: Mon – Thurs 11 – 7, Fri 9 – 5 with flexibility

Qualifications:

1. Registered Dietitian status with the American Dietetic Association

2. Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition/Dietetics

3. Computer skills: Command of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Computer Reporting

4. Knowledge of area HIV/AIDS services and dietary issues helpful

5. Outgoing; caring and compassionate attitude; ability to prioritize and organize tasks and work independently as well in a team setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

General: Encourage and maintain the Center's mission of hospitality and empowerment through person-centered relationships, utilizing harm reduction and wellness principles. Maintain confidentiality and non-discriminatory conduct in accordance with Albany Damien Center policies.

Duties:

• Provide nutritional screenings, assessments, meal orientations, and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). Follow members between assessments for goal progress and suggest alterations to dietary plans.

• Provide nutritional counseling, reinforce nutrition and food safety education, and answer clients’ general nutrition questions during congregate meal times, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays (Lunch 12 – 1:30 and Dinners 6 – 7:30).

• Provide nutritional analysis of Smart Meals menus.

• Assist in execution and review of Smart Meals grant work plans.

• Gather inventory of food ingredients to be placed in the grocery bags each Thursday. Ensure that a volunteer is available to assemble and distribute the grocery bags.

• Disseminate emergency food bags.

• Schedule Food Voucher Client recipients, determine voucher amounts, and track.

• Supervise SM Chef and Assistant Chef to ensure job duties are being performed on a regular, consistent basis.

• Coordinate and run weekly CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) meeting with Smart Meal Staff.

• Complete outreach presentations to outlying counties to recruit clients for the Food Voucher Program, as needed.

• Attend to other tasks as needed for the Smart Meals Program (i.e. assisting with attic organization, cleanups, donations, ordering paper goods and other supplies as needed, etc)
